Igor Kotnik Art (PastelArt)

Igor Kotnik, an artist educated at the School of Design and Painting in Ljubljana, masterfully blends dry pastels and vibrant acrylics to reflect the beauty and joy of life, drawing inspiration from his Prague roots and the soothing rhythms of classical piano music. His unique technique, which harmonizes spontaneous strokes with structured forms, allows him to create layered, dynamic pieces that evoke serenity and endless variations of emotion. Throughout his career, he has exhibited in both group and solo shows, sharing his vision and positive energy with audiences across Europe,United Arab Emirates,Canada...  with works now held in a multitude of private collections.

Inside My Abstract Art Process .
Art has always been my language – a way to translate the energy, chaos and harmony I feel into something tangible. My journey as an abstract artist working with acrylic on canvas has been a vibrant exploration of colour, texture and emotion. Today I want to share an insight into my process, the inspiration for my work and what drives me to create. For me, abstract art is freedom. There are no boundaries, no rules – just a raw play of colour and movement. I am drawn to the unpredictable, energetic and expressive. Each canvas starts as an empty space full of possibilities, and I never know where the path will take me.My process is spontaneous and intentional. I start by choosing a color palette that reflects my mood—sometimes fiery reds and oranges, other times dark blues and metallic golds. I work in layers, building texture with palette knives, brushes, and sometimes even my hands. The impasto technique allows me to sculpt color, creating surfaces that invite the touch as much as the gaze.
I often step back and let the painting “speak” to me, responding to the movement and energy on the canvas. Some works have swirling patterns or abstract faces that emerge organically from chaos. I like to incorporate unexpected materials—matte black sculptural elements, metal accents, or even found objects—to add depth and interest.
Each painting is a reflection of my inner world—a dance between chaos and harmony, emotion and control. I am fascinated by the way color and texture can evoke emotions, spark curiosity, or invite reflection. My hope is that viewers will find their own stories in the layers and connect with the energy and movement in a way that is personal to them.
Like many artists, I have faced creative blocks and moments of doubt. But I have learned that these are part of the process – opportunities to experiment, push boundaries, and discover new techniques. Every painting teaches me something new, whether it’s about color relationships, texture, or simply trusting my intuition.
Art is meant to be shared. I invite you to explore my portfolio, follow my journey on social media, or contact me if any work speaks to you. Whether you’re an art lover, a fellow creative, or simply curious, I hope my work brings a spark of inspiration to your day.
